LW-PLA Lightweight Filament – Ultra-Light & High-Performance

purefil’s LW-PLA (Lightweight PLA) is an expanding polymer designed to create ultra-lightweight prints by reducing material density. With its active foaming technology, it enables up to 70% weight reduction while maintaining excellent printability and surface quality.

Innovative Foaming Technology

At around 200°C, LW-PLA starts expanding as the foaming effect activates. The higher the temperature, the greater the expansion. Maximum expansion occurs at 250–260°C, allowing for incredibly lightweight prints. By adjusting the flow rate down to 30%, users can print up to three times more parts compared to standard PLA.

Use LW-PLA’s expansion properties to:

• Create low-density, ultra-lightweight components
• Print wider single-layer walls (up to 1.2 mm with a 0.4 mm nozzle)
• Reduce print time by up to 3× by optimizing layer height

A heated bed is recommended but not required for printing with LW-PLA.

Things to Keep in Mind

• Softens at 60°C – Not ideal for high-heat environments
• Requires print setting adjustments for optimal performance
• Some stringing may occur due to foaming properties
• Color may lighten after expansion

Sustainability & Disposal

PLA is technically biodegradable, but only under industrial composting conditions. In natural environments, it does not break down efficiently. We advise against composting LW-PLA or its printed parts in household waste.
